ABOUT THE VIRTUAL VISIT
My workshops are based on material from my book, Yes! You Can Learn How to Write Children’s Books, Get Them Published, and Build a Successful Writing Career. They are designed for writer’s groups, children’s writers, and anyone interested in learning more about the career of a writer. Each Virtual Visit lasts about 45 minutes with a 10 minute question and answer session at the end.
During the workshop, writers will be introduced to the real world of a working children’s writer. I will share practical, hands-on exercises to explore ways to earn income as a writer and start getting published on a regular basis even while learning essential writing skills.
TOPICS TO CHOOSE FROM
You can choose which topic you’d like me to present during my workshop with your group. Here are topics to choose from:
#1 FIRST PAGES
Your manuscript’s first page is the first thing an editor sees. In this workshop I’ll teach you key ingredients of a winning first page in a book manuscript. E-mail me copies of the first page from manuscripts of members in your group. I’ll select a number of them to discuss and offer helpful feedback on so you can revamp yours from blah to brilliant. This workshop can be tailored for the children’s market, the adult market, or both.
#2 TRIPLE CROWN OF SUCCESS
This workshop will help you focus on three different projects in your writing week so that you can write for the goals of personal fulfillment, for publication, and for income. We’ll discuss the different strategies it takes to meet each of these goals and how to implement them in your writing life to experience success. This workshop is based on the Triple Crown of Success in my book, Yes! You Can Learn How to Write Children’s Books, Get Them Published, and Build a Successful Writing Career. This workshop can be tailored for the children’s market, the adult market, or both.
#3 WRITER’S PYRAMID
I will teach you what you can do in just one hour a day, five days a week, and over four weeks to help launch your writing career to the next level. Together we’ll fill out a blank calendar with a list of actual activities you can complete in the hour you schedule each day of writing for the next month. This approach is based on the Writer’s Pyramid in my book, Yes! You Can Learn How to Write Children’s Books, Get Them Published, and Build a Successful Writing Career. This workshop can be tailored for the children’s market, the adult market, or both.
#4 PICTURE BOOK WORKSHOPS
Choose one, or both, of these workshops for writing a picture book:
*BEGINNER’S TRACK: Learn the basics about writing a picture book from page count to making a dummy!
*ADVANCED TRACK: Learn how to plot a successful story arc that will catch an editor’s eye and touch the heart of young readers…and more!
#5 MIDDLE GRADE NOVEL WORKSHOP
This workshop is designed to help you write a Middle Grade novel for kids ages 8 to 12. We’ll cover lots of ground and learn about topics such as plot, character development, and tools of the trade.
#6 CUSTOMIZED WORKSHOP
I can customize a workshop to meet the unique needs of your writers group. Contact me and we’ll discuss how to make your Virtual Visit a perfect fit for your members.
SKYPE and ANY MEETING
Workshops will be made over Skype or AnyMeeting. If you have a computer and access to the Internet, it’s easy!
Simply wait to receive an e-mail from me and then follow the directions to get your computer ready for our meeting. Up to 200 individual laptops or computers can be connected to the Virtual Visit at once for members to get an up close and personal experience.
Just download Skype for free onto your computer. Small groups of 10 or 20 can gather in front of the computer for the pre-arranged and scheduled visit. Or, larger groups can meet in a room with a large screen. By connecting the computer to the large screen, the Skype visit can successfully take place for all members to enjoy.
Contact Nancy at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about setting up and scheduling a Skype workshop for a Virtual Author Visit with your writers group. And if you host a writer’s conference or event where you want to invite Nancy to come speak to your group in person, please contact her to discuss travel arrangements and fees.
